14K Carved Ivory Pendant 3296
|
Hand carved cameo style Alaskan fossilized walrus ivory by Steven Ruse - renowned Alaskan Indian artist. Carving detail and workmanship are outstanding. The designs represent Eskimo life. Fossil walrus ivory is found in walrus tusks that have been buried for a long period of time. Most fossil ivory is not ancient and has not mineralized. For example, at 1000 years, ivory only changes slightly in texture and color. Over a longer period of time the ivory can turn into stone by being replaced by minerals. For example, Dinosaur bone is over 1,000,000 years old, and is mineralized bone = stone.
